PAYO Teams compete in Tulino Tournament, Majors Softball earns sweep for Championship

Several PAYO teams competed in the Tulino Tournament over the past two weekends in a variety of baseball and softball divisions. The Tony Tulino Memorial Tournament is Ohio Little League District 1's new annual tournament, and while it was started last season it only took on the Tulino name in 2022 to honor Tony's numerous years of dedication to Ohio Little League's District 1 in Northeast Ohio.

The highlights of the weekend included the Majors Softball Venom, coached by Luke Jernigan and Amy Young, as they swept the competition. The Venom earned a 12-8 win over the Kingsville Warriors in the first round on Friday night, came from behind to gain a 10-7 victory over the Ashtabula Marlins on Saturday afternoon and completed the sweep in beating the Marlins a second time, 13-3 in four innings. The Venom were led in the tournament by Peyton Hudson's 3 hits and 6 RBI, Hannah Young's 5 hits and 3 RBI, Khloe Haines' 5 runs and 7 stolen bases, Kaylee Hussing's 3 hits, 3 runs and 8 stolen bases, Elizabeth Jernigan's 5 runs scored and 10 stolen bases and Kailee Reynolds' stupendous defense. Jernigan, Hudson and Kaelyn Castle earned the victories pitching for the Venom who have a 14-1 record overall heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.

In Majors Baseball, Josh Vickery coached the Tribe to three straight wins to start the tournament with 11-0, 11-0 and 12-0 wins on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday Jefferson's White Sox (6-1 loss) and A's (6-5 loss) were able to kill the Tribe's momentum and force them into a 3rd place finish.

Played on the weekend of June 3-5, the 50/70 Flip Kings and Pepper Kings both participated in the Tulino Tournament as well as the Pepper Kings went 1-2 in the tourney and the Flip Kings won two games before being eliminated.
