PAYO's Opening Day brings the community together, highlights the importance of youth sports
In a time where the world seems to constantly be divided on one topic or another, the Andover community joined with those around us to come together on Saturday at Pymatuning Valley High School for PAYO's first-ever Opening Day ceremonies. "It was a fantastic day and event for our entire area," stated Cody Paul, President of PAYO. "We were able to recognize over 200 youngsters playing Little League baseball and softball this season as well as those valuable sponsors who support what we do."
The event allowed PAYO to not only recognize this season's players, but also highlight the success of 2021 tournament teams and bring attention to upcoming facility improvements. "Our board is dedicated to making an impact that benefits the area youth for years to come," said Luke Jernigan, PAYO Vice President and Information Officer, to the crowd. "We have an awesome group of volunteers who work very, very hard to make the season as great as it can be for each and every child here today, but we want do even more."
In addition to PAYO's recognition of players, coaches and sponsors for the 2022 season, representatives from Lakers Youth Football and WASP (Williamsfield Area Soccer Program) were also in attendance with sign-ups at their tables in the lobby. "Having both the youth football and soccer programs here today shows our continued commitment to the youth of the area and the importance of keeping these kids active and learning in team environments," Jernigan added.
While the 2022 season begins for several baseball and softball teams this week for most division that compete in
Ohio District 1 Little League
, some divisions begin in late May due to high school schedules and/or field availability.
The 2022 PAYO baseball & softball season is brought to you by Mega-Byte Computer Services, Perfect Pet Dog Training, Pizza Joe's of Andover, Seeley Medical and Russell's BBQ in Linesville.
