PAYO Softball 9, 10, 11 year old All-Stars win Take 3rd place in State of Ohio

The Pymatuning Area Youth Organization (PAYO) All-Stars jumped back into action over the weekend playing in the Ohio Little League State Tournament. After winning the District 1 title earlier this month, the girls took the field on Saturday and Sunday at Cederquist Park in Ashtabula, seeking a State Championship. Playing against the District 11 Champions from Gallia County Little League in the opening game of the tournament, the PAYO girls trailed 14-10 heading into the 6th inning but eventually fell 20-11. Fighting out of the loser's brackets, the PAYO All-Stars were led by Kailee Reynolds on the mound in their second game as they defeated Conneaut/Kingsville's Lakeshore All-Stars 42-19 in a crazy Sunday morning game. After taking some time off to cool down and hydrate, the ladies returned for an evening tilt with Gallia County once again, this time with a berth in the title game on the line. Despite holding a lead much of the game, the 6th inning was the deciding frame as Gallia County took the lead in the top of the 6th only to see the PAYO team load the bases with the winning run on 2nd base with 2 outs. In the end the PAYO girls did not have quite enough as they dropped the game 15-14 to take 3rd place in the State of Ohio in the 9-11 Softball bracket to end their season and reach a level that few PAYO teams have ever seen before.

Once again, the State Tournament success was a team effort. Over the course of the 5 District and State Tournament games the PAYO girls scored 111 runs and saw the following statistical highlights:

Elizabeth Jernigan reached base in all 22 plate appearances (1.000 on-base percentage), leading the team with a .909 batting average, 9 singles, 19 runs scored and 26 stolen bases - in just 4 games. She also pitched in 3 games picking up 1 win.

Kailee Reynolds led the team with 12 hits, 4 doubles and 19 RBI while also scoring 10 runs in 5 games. She also pitched in all 5 tournament games picking up a team high 2 wins.

Kaylee Hussing batted .643 (2nd best on the team) with 7 hits, 9 walks, 21 steals and 13 RBI.

Jada Huffman scored 15 runs and stole 23 bases, both stats ranking 2nd on the team.

Addison Paul batted .545 with a .762 on-base percentage and 8 RBI while catching 23 of 24 innings of tournament play.

Bella Brent batted .500 with a .857 on-base percentage and 8 walks, 11 runs scored and 19 stolen bases.

In addition, Maddy Jackson also batted .500 for the tournament, and the team also had key contributions from Brooklyn Haley, Madison Hussing, Alyssa Miller and Kylee Tauche both offensively and defensively. The PAYO Softball 9, 10, 11 year old All-Stars were coached by Luke Jernigan and Misty Huffman.
