PAYO Softball 9, 10, 11 year old All-Stars win Ohio's District 1 Title in 2 games
It was an action-packed end of the week for the Pymatuning Area Youth Organization (PAYO) All-Stars as we rolled into July of 2021. On Thursday night, facing elimination, the PAYO Majors (ages 10-12) softball All-Stars bounced back from a Wednesday night rainout by defeating a tough Kingsville team 14-0 at home. The Majors girls then repeated this strong showing with a 14-4 win at Ashtabula on Friday night to advance yet again. Meanwhile, the Senior boys baseball team defeated Jefferson 22-6 in Game 1 of their best of 3 series which could conclude today.
But the biggest highlight of the weekend was the PAYO's girls softball 9, 10 and 11 year old All-Stars. Also playing a best of 3 series, the PAYO girls were facing a combined Conneaut & Kingsville team with Game 1 played in Kingsville on Thursday night. The PAYO girls jumped out to an early 8-1 lead after 1 inning and never looked back, scoring a 19-4 victory behind the bat and arm of Kailee Reynolds who went 3-3 with 5 RBI and was the winning pitcher in Game 1. The girls followed this performance on Friday night with Elizabeth Jernigan on the mound as the girls brought home a 25-15 win to take the Ohio District 1 Little League Championship. Jernigan was credited with the win and was 3-3 with 5 runs scored and 8 stolen bases in the game and Kaylee Hussing and Kailee Reynolds added a combined 7 RBI.
