PAYO Board of Directors Announces Cancellation of 2020 Season

With heavy but confident hearts, the Board of Directors of the Pymatuning Area Youth Organization (PAYO) announces the following:

After many district and local league meetings and careful consideration and assessment of the current conditions within our world, PAYO has decided to cancel the 2020 season.

By this time in a normal season, our teams would be well into practices and games preparing for All-Star Selections. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, 2020 had different plans for all of us. Discussions have been very lengthy in regards to what it would take to move forward with the 2020 season per Governor Dewine’s orders, from utilizing uncommon rules or celebrations of the game to keeping coaches and players following the guidelines that were set forth.

Though we may have not felt the immediate effects of this virus in our area and we hope not to, it is out there. The majority of our divisions travel to other locations within the county to play games, and this is just one reason why PAYO feels that the risks outweigh the rewards for the 2020 season. This is NOT a decision that was taken lightly. Nearly every member of our Board of Directors is a parents to one or more children that play under the PAYO banner, and we do not want to place any of our players, coaches, umpires, or family members in any unusually unsafe environment.

While our 2020 playing season will not occur as scheduled due to a growing list of unknowns, our Board of Directors will continue activities and planning for the best possible season in 2021. We will also be working on ways to get our teams/divisions and coaches together to do some drills and play games this season if parents feel it is safe for their child to participate. We will post dates for these events on the website (payobaseball.com) and on our Facebook page.

With the 2020 season being canceled parents/players have three options available:

Option 1: Roll your registration fees into next year’s 2021 season and be locked in at the 2020 pricing.

Option 2: Request a full refund of registration fees. We will only be processing refunds that have a completed REFUND FORM that are sent to the email address [email protected]. The REFUND FORM can be found in the link provided or at PAYOBASEBALL.COM under FORMS & FILES tab.

Option 3: Reach out to another league within our county and request to signup with their league if they are following through with the 2020 season. We can work out the financials to roll over funds with the league you choose to sign-up with. FYI, registration fees may be more and you will be responsible for the additional cost. Contacts for other leagues listed below:

Grand Valley – [email protected]
Jefferson – [email protected]
Kingsville – [email protected]
Ashtabula – [email protected]

We hope you understand our decision and share our sentiment that this is the best decision for Pymatuning Area Youth Organization and our community as a whole. We hope everyone stays safe and enjoys their summer and time together!

We look forward to seeing you again as we prepare for our 2021 season!
